With all sales of new petrol and diesel cars to cease in the UK by 2040, many people are looking for the next best option. UK Car Finance have complied a list of their best electric cars for 2018…

Nissan Leaf

When it was first introduced, the Nissan Leaf was an electric car lover’s dream. It was mainly popular for its minimal running costs and practicality, so much so that Nissan released a whole new second generation. The new model is better all-round, it’s bigger, it’s faster and it’s now able to travel a much further distance between charges. One of the biggest selling points of the leaf is how quiet it is, numerous reviews have praised the Nissan Leaf for its silent driving. The inside boats a laid-back driving style, with comfortable seats and a spacious front. We believe the Nissan Leaf will continue to be a fan favourite in 2018.

Renault Zoe

The Renault Zoe is one of our cheapest electric cars on the list. But don’t let its price tag fool you. The Zoe has been designed to do 160 miles on a full charge without lacking acceleration. Even with no gears, the Zoe is smooth and nippy. It also doesn’t have that futuristic electric car look, which many people don’t like. Its exterior body looks similar to other Renault models. Inside, the Zoe has a 7 inch colour touchscreen where you can control the radio, Bluetooth and sat-nav. The interior is cool and modern, bringing a touch of colour without being too ‘in your face’.

BMW i3

If you’re looking for something with a classier interior, the BMW i3 is one of the best! It’s spacious and comfortably fits four adults. The interior design has a very futuristic feel and comes with many impressive bits of equipment as standard from BMW. Such as their BMW Professional Multimedia system and BMW ConnectedDrive. In relation to its running costs and reliability, the BMW i3 an approximate 112 miles (full charge) in under 3 hours, which is 5x faster than a standard charge on most models. It also qualifies for the governments electric grant!

Volkswagen e-Golf

The e-Golf is great for practicality and safety. With a Euro NCAP crash test score of 5 stars, the e-Golf is a great car for families looking for an electric car. It’s spacious interior comfortably sits 2 adults in the front and 2 adults or 3 children in the rear. On the outside, it typically looks like your usual Golf and also drives like one too, refined, solid and nice to steer. With a range of 118 miles on a single charge, it is one of the most energy efficient models out there.

Jaguar I-Pace

The Jaguar I-Pace is the first electric car by Jaguar and also one of our most expensive electric cars on the list! Jaguar’s goal was to ‘design the best electric car on the plant’. In terms of design and styling, there’s no denying that it looks good. It’s also a spacious option for a family SUV and could easily be any buyers only car within the household. In true Jaguar fashion, speed and acceleration is nothing to compromise on, the I-Pace is capable of 0-60mph in 4.5 seconds!
